Meet a Local Organic Farmer

Sustainable Practices for a Healthier Future

The biggest driver for Bob Chan, founder of Bob the Butcher, is his passion for organic agriculture and living alongside nature. This passion for organic practices is reflected in the selection of high-quality organic meats offered at his store in Burnaby. Working with several local farmers in Greater Vancouver, he values their commitment to sustainable practises, and wants to empower them by building stronger connections between them and the community.

Jeff Rogers in his wheat field

Jeff Rogers, a supplier of organic meats, shares the desire to play a role in Canada's growing organic market. Rogers' organic farm, situated in North Vancouver, has been producing organic meat for over a decade. “To live in harmony with nature and to ensure animal welfare has been a lifelong dream for me”, says Jeff. “There is nothing more satisfying than knowing the cows have spent most of their days in the green fields.”

Jeff grew up on a farm and was familiar with farm life. However, he became increasingly aware of the negative impact conventional agriculture had on the environment. Witnessing these negative effects firsthand fueled Jeff's passion for sustainable practices. This led him to pursue a degree in environmental studies and gain hands-on experience through an organic farmer's apprenticeship program.

Today, Jeff runs a successful farm that produces wheat and meat. Furthermore, his farm has become a popular destination for families, offering tours every weekend to meet the various animals that live on the farm. The farm also hosts educational activities that teach participants about organic farming and its positive environmental impacts. Jeff stands out as an exceptional host with remarkable dedication to his animals and farm.

What is organic?

According to the Canadian Organic Standards, “The principle goal of organic production is to develop operations that are sustainable and harmonious with the environment.” By choosing organic, you select products free from GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms) and support producers who follow strict standards ensuring animal welfare, promoting biodiversity, and enhancing soil fertility. We are proud of our suppliers and want to raise awareness of the great work they do every day. That is why we are hosting an event on the first Sunday of every month, MEAT the FARMER, to introduce our suppliers. Come meet them, try some samples of their products, and get to know them better! Check out our online store for a full selection of organic meats with the option to place orders.

“Organic farming affords animals the opportunity to lead a nurtured life, making sure they live long and healthily. This care directly translates into taste and quality – you can tell the difference in every bite.”
